The 5 Factor diet created by Harley Pasternak, is the latest Hollywood craze. It is a follow on from the original program 5 Factor Fitness. Celebrities such as Jessica Simpson, Alicia Keys, Eva Mendes and Kanye West swear by the program.

This program was originally designed for celebrities to get them in top shape in the shortest time possible, and now the program has been made available for the general public to reap the benefits.

How It Works

Now as the name suggests, the whole program is based on the number 5 - 5 meals a day, consisting of 5 ingredients that take no longer than 5 minutes to prepare. I am a bit dubious about the 5 minutes preparation time, but in today’s hustle and bustle world, this is a definite selling point for the program.

Meals should not be skipped with this diet plan because going long periods of time without food causes our bodies to store fat instead of burning it off. This is why the program includes regular meals at 3 hourly intervals to boost our metabolism and increase fat loss.

The 5 ingredients that make up each meal are: lean quality proteins, low GI carbohydrates, fibre from fruit & vegetables, condiments and sugar free beverages. There is also one cheat day each week built into the program so you can still eat your favourite foods that have been eliminated from the daily diet plan. I would recommend changing the cheat day to 1 or 2 cheat meals, as an entire cheat day could quite easily undo all of the hard work you have put in through the week.

The exercise program also follows the 5 principle. 5 exercises - 5 minutes each - totalling 25 minutes a day - 5 days a week. This is ideal for busy people as fitting exercise into an already busy schedule is much easier when you only have to find 25 minutes. Another bonus is that you do not have to belong to a gym in order to do the workouts. This program is specifically designed for the home exerciser, the only equipment you will need is a fitness ball, some dumbbells and maybe a bench.

This plan is simple and easy to follow as the dieter is provided with all the tools to succeed. The website sets out your own personal fitness plans and menu plans but there are also recipes, eating out journals and much more.

This plan is designed to last for 5 weeks, with the option of continuing, but the program is so simple it would be easy to go on alone after the 5 weeks. The pricing is also very reasonable at - yes, you guessed it - $5 per week.
