The media are reporting that doctors in the north of England are handing out more diet pills than anywhere else.
The drug Xenical is an appetite-surpressent and is only meant to be perscribed to people as a last resort. Doctors are supposed to monitor a person’s health and diet for at least 3 months before handing over a perscription of Xenical. In just one year the NHS is set to spend £50 million on this costly medication.
Figures are showing that areas such as Manchester and Liverpool are the biggest consumers of the drug, (more…)
