My Top 3

Hmm…I’ve been trying to tackle a lion this week and somehow tame it as well. However, the taming part isn’t working! For those of you who just happened to stumble across my blog, I’m talking about dieting and eating right. Or just eating right…dieting is SUCH a dirty word. I mean who invented that word anyway? Diet….die….someone put a ‘t’ on the end of it and made a fancy name for starving yourself! Anyway, I’m trying not to diet so much as I’m trying to eat in a healthy manner. So the first thing I did this week was join an online support group, that provided healthy meal plans and exercises, etc. all for free! That’s right I said for free…the place to go is http://www.sparkpeople.com/ if you need help with dieting or living a healthy lifestyle.

Sparkpeople have you commit to 3 manageable goals. I chose to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day, write out everything I eat and get 8 hours of sleep each night. I chose those because I thought they would be easy. Boy was I wrong!

I have written everything out this week (my first goal) and came to the conclusion that I fail miserably on diets because I don’t eat enough during the day. Yes, that’s what I said…I don’t eat enough during the day. Which causes huge problems for me at night because then I’m super hungry, so I have cheese and crackers or popcorn or carrots, whatever takes the edge off. I’m not a big dessert person and I have to admit my snacks are not so bad “healthwise”, it’s just that eating in the evening (I’ve been told) is a big no-no if you want to lose weight. Even if it is something small, you shouldn’t eat anything at all! So, I will try to work on that during week 2.

I managed to drink my required water for about 2 days and then I got so busy (book signings, etc.) that I forgot to bring water with me. As for the 8 hours of sleep each night. What a joke! I can be completely exhausted and as soon as my head hits the pillow, I’m wide awake. Combine that with pain in my legs (it’s always there but worse at night), I never got the required 8 hours of sleep each night, this week at all. I’ve heard that lack of sleep can cause weight gain. I’m not sure how, but if that’s how I gained all my weight then I better start taking sleeping pills or else this weight is never going to come off!
