I am most of all thankful for the fact that I am capable of choosing my own path, and that I have the freedom and the resources to do just that. What that means in more words is that I am deeply grateful for my family and friends. Without them I would never have believed that it is possible to achieve dreams.
When I was growing up there were things I wanted more than anything else…
To be independent.
To have a place of my own, and a cat or two.
To pursue my doctorate in Psychology.
To be an artist of some kind.
To be free to make my own choices.
To love, be strong enough to forgive others and myself, and to learn to love my life.
To have close friendships.
To know my family.
It hit me last night as I was sitting around with my friends, celebrating our Clemson version of Thanksgiving, that I have all of those things… I was so deeply pleased by this realization, and so moved. I cannot believe how amazing life has been to me, through all the struggles it’s always worth it on the other side. Without the dark times I could never have appreciated the bright times. I am not one who is ever content with what I have in the moment, but I’ve decided that maybe that is not such a bad thing. Without that curiosity for more and the desire to strive, I’d never be where I am now.
I miss you my dear family and friends! Today more than other days, know that I am so thankful for all of you!! I look around my apartment and remember all of you through the things I have and the life I have here for myself that all of you have made possible - and made bearable too, haha, grad school is a hard road to walk sometimes.
OH and you’d be proud to know I made healthier versions of both green bean casserole and pumpkin pie for the party last night - they were both GOOD and everyone loved them! See, when I put my mind to it I can even cook, haha. With a little phone call to my mother and some IM support from my best friend of course! I almost had to call my grandmother too, but I figured it out at the last minute by myself. Google might have helped a bit too, hehe.
I also made a Cranberry Fizzy Cocktail drink, and a lovely seasonal salad! If you guys want to check out my recipes - go here and see my Thanksgiving cookbook!
Love,
Brandy
